Get Ready for Bike Season

Tuning Up for the Trails

Spring has officially landed in the Northeast Kingdom, and that means just one thing: bike season is here. Whether you’re a seasoned shredder or just getting into the rhythm of the trails, now’s the time to get your gear (and body) tuned up for another epic season on Kingdom Trails.

Here at The Wildflower Inn, we’re lucky to sit right at the gateway to some of the best singletrack in the country — and we’re just as excited as you are to roll into the dirt. Here’s how to make sure you’re ready when the trails open up.

๐Ÿ”ง 1. Give Your Bike Some Love

Before you hit the trailhead, give your bike a thorough once-over — or better yet, take it to a local bike shop for a pre-season tune.

Key things to check:

  • Tires: Inspect for wear, cracks, and make sure pressure is dialed.
  • Brakes: Are they feeling squishy? Might be time for a bleed or new pads.
  • Drivetrain: Clean and lube your chain, check for worn cogs and rings.
  • Suspension: Make sure it’s holding air and feeling smooth — a service might be due.
  • Bolts: Give every bolt a quick torque check (especially stem, handlebars, and crankset).

Pro tip: Rifugio by KC&E on the Wildflower campus is a fantastic local resource for all your maintenance needs.

๐Ÿง  2. Brush Up on Trail Etiquette

As trails dry out and fill with riders, it's important to ride responsibly:

  • Ride open trails only – respect closures due to mud, maintenance, or wildlife.
  • Yield to uphill riders – and always give hikers and horses the right of way.
  • Leave no trace – pack out what you pack in and respect trail signage.
  • Be kind – a friendly “hello” or “on your left” goes a long way.

Let’s keep the Kingdom Trails the world-class experience they are — for everyone.

๐Ÿšด 3. Get Your Legs (and Mind) in the Game

Not quite feeling trail-ready? No stress — early-season riding is all about easing in:

  • Start with shorter rides and work your way back to full loops.
  • Do a few hill climbs to wake up your legs.
  • Practice cornering and braking before diving into techy terrain.
  • Hydrate and fuel like it’s mid-July — your body will thank you.

And remember: riding is supposed to be fun. No need to hammer every ride.

๐ŸŒผ 4. Plan a Ride-Cation at The Wildflower

Whether you’re local or visiting from afar, The Wildflower Inn is the perfect basecamp for your early-season riding adventures. You’ll enjoy:

  • Direct access to Kingdom Trails ๐Ÿšด‍โ™‚๏ธ
  • Secure bike storage & wash station ๐Ÿงผ
  • Hearty, rider-approved breakfasts ๐Ÿฅ“
  • Craft beers & après at The Wildflower Restaurant and Pub and Dirt Church ๐Ÿป
  • Sunset views and hot showers waiting at day’s end ๐ŸŒ„๐Ÿšฟ

Plus, we’ve got ride maps, trail tips, and local knowledge on tap — just ask.
